Dear Cindy – Certified Nursing Assistant Relocating to Texas

I wanted to know if CNA licenses are transferable from Louisiana to Texas. I currently attend Job Corps in Louisiana, and I am going for my CNA. I plan on moving to Texas when I have completed it. So of course, I need to know if my certification will be transferrable to Texas, because otherwise I can transfer to a Texas Job Corps center to complete my certification. If you have any knowledge or insight into my situation I would appreciate it.

The Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) maintains the Nurse Aide Registry. To become a nurse aid, a person must:

You can qualify for reciprocity: "If you are currently on the nurse aide registry in another state that is in compliance with applicable federal laws and you complete the necessary DADS-required documentation." The reciprocity application form is available on the DADS site.

The National Network of Career Nursing Assistants provides a general overview of the reciprocity request procedure. And since they say the first step is to contact the registry in your home state (in your case, the state you're training in, whether it's your home state or not), you will also need the contact details of the Louisiana Nurse Aide Registry, which is available on the Louisiana Board of Examiners of Nursing Facility Administrators site.
