Dear Cindy:
I read the earlier query in which a person asked about situations in which a job post lists a salary range, not one specific salary, and I have a follow-up question: Do employers ever go outside of the posted salary range?

Sincerely,

Looking

Dear Looking:

Usually they do not go beyond the range, because it's something that has been set in advance by the employer or, in the case of unionized environments, is part of the established collective agreement.

In general, just remember to assess the full offer (e.g., vacation time, hours, upward mobility, benefits), not just the salary, and keep in mind that a new hire often doesn't get the top of the range to start.
