I am a laboratory technologist who is currently in a temporary supervisory position in the lab (covering for a maternity leave). When my current position ends, I will return to my usual bench technologist position. What is the best way to incorporate this work experience into my résumé? Sincerely, Temporary Supervisor Dear TS: There are a few places where you could indicate this supervisory experience on your résumé: • If you use a functional
style résumé, this is something you
would foreground in the area discussing your skills
and/or accomplishments.
• If you choose a combination
style résumé, you would include it
in the summary of your skills/accomplishments,
which is placed before your chronological experience.
• If you choose a combination
or chronological style résumé,
you would also include it when you list
this job. Depending on your individual style, and/or
the amount of space you have available, you could
do something understated, such as a summary line
within the overall write-up for this employer,
e.g. "Between October 2004 and April 2005, was
acting supervisor of microbiology (or whatever
bench/lab). Additional duties included …"
Alternately, you could foreground it by listing
it as a separate job under the same employer. Discuss This ArticleHave something you'd like to say? Tell us what you think! Read and post comments for this article. Like this answer?
