Lima Tuberculosis Hospital, Lima,
Ohio ![]()
Today, our tour of haunted hospitals takes us back to Ohio! * * * * * The Lima Tuberculosis Hospital, Lima, OhioHistory The Lima Tuberculosis Hospital opened in 1911 and was enlarged in 1928 due to an increase in TB cases. By 1960, with the progressive decline of cases, the hospital began to accept non-TB patients, changing its name to Ottawa Valley Hospital. However, budget cuts forced the hospital to shut down completely in 1970. Pictures on the Ohio Trespassers website reveal how the hospital has been vandalized, with all of the windows smashed out. Hauntings According to the Forgotten Ohio website, legends hold that ghosts of dead TB patients follow you through the hospital and, though you may not see them, you can feel their presence. One story about a visit to the Lima Hospital described the sound of a furnace or other similar machine, despite the lack of electricity in the building. Loud pounding noises were heard on the upper floors, and later could be heard, steady and quick, as though they were right beside the visitor. And near an exit, something – what the narrator referred to as "an apparition … or a poltergeist of some sort" – was seen moving. The narrator has not returned to the Lima Hospital since!
