Perusing the information published by licensing bodies regarding members who have been reprimanded, penalized, and/or had their licenses suspended/withdrawn for unprofessional conduct is enlightening and sometimes disturbing – and, let's confess, entertaining. The following items from licensing board action reports are a reminder that it's not just what you do at work that counts! First, a long, complex story … • "After becoming an RN,
the member pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and
was fined $450. Three years later, the member shot
and killed a man at a bar. He pleaded guilty to second-degree
murder and was imprisoned for 10 years. After his
release, the member obtained employment as a nurse
through the agency, but did not disclose his criminal
record. The member indicated on his resume that he
had worked for the government during the 10-year
gap in his practice, but failed to specify that he
was incarcerated during that time …" (Well,
his comment about "worked for the government" is
technically true.) Lastly, some quickies: • "Pled guilty to armed
robbery"
• "Pled guilty to grand
theft"
• "Pled guilty to felonious
assault"
• "Pled guilty to public
indecency"
• "Is guilty of a felony
involving moral turpitude"
• "Willfully evading personal
income tax"
• "Convicted … of
conspiracy to commit credit card fraud."
