License Losers – The Realm of the Bizarre!

Perusing the information published by licensing bodies regarding members who have been reprimanded, penalized, and/or had their licenses suspended/withdrawn for unprofessional conduct is enlightening and sometimes disturbing – and, let's confess, entertaining.

Here's some material from the Realm of the Bizarre:

• "[Name] is duly licensed in [State] as a licensed practical nurse. … while on duty during the night shift, Respondent experienced chest discomfort and took a nitroglycerin tablet that had been prescribed for a resident for her own use. Respondent had not been diagnosed with a heart condition and had no prescription for medication."
• "… (t)he member committed an act of professional misconduct by engaging in an inappropriate game of charades with Grade 7 students in that the member asked them to act out sexually explicit words … The member, as a public health nurse, attended a school to immunize Grade 7 students against Hepatitis B. The member was required to stay for 30 minutes to ensure that there were no adverse reactions. During this time, the member initiated a game of charades, which involved the member suggesting words that a student would act out in front of the class. The member introduced sexual words, including sex, sexual intercourse and penis in an effort to reinforce the health teaching about Hepatitis B. Some of the students began acting out their own sexual expressions."
• "Witnessed looking at items in a coworkers' purse without their permission, including a bottle of medication."
• "…(t)he member committed acts of professional misconduct by verbally and physically abusing clients, as follows: making insulting and demeaning comments, shouting and scaring clients, shouting 'boo' to wake clients and throwing clients against a wall. It was also alleged that the member shoved a co-worker against a wall and twisted the co-worker's nipples."

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
