Perusing the information published by licensing bodies regarding members who have been reprimanded, penalized, and/or had their licenses suspended/withdrawn for unprofessional conduct is enlightening and sometimes disturbing – and, let's confess, entertaining. Here are some more unusual items, taken from licensing board action reports, which fall under the sensational headers of: sex, violence, and mayhem! Sex• "Viewed pornographic
sites on computer at nurse's station."
• "(A)ccepted samples (to
give to a friend) of Viagra from another friend,
a nurse who worked in a doctor's office, printing
a label at the X Hospital pharmacy, where respondent
worked as a pharmacy technician, and providing the
Viagra to her friend." (Our comment: "Friend," is
it?) Violence• "The member was charged
with five counts arising from an incident in which
he assaulted his partner and threatened to cause
the deaths of his partner and another person. He
was convicted of one count of assault and two counts
of uttering death threats. The member received a
suspended sentence and nine months' probation. He
self-reported the conviction … and completed
an anger management course."
• "Causing a patient harm
… actual or implied threats" Mayhem• "Felony conviction for
aggravated robbery, robbery, and inducing panic."
(Our italics.)
• "Falsely accused a patient
of stalking …"
