Instead, MRI Techs are required to hold a state (or ARRT) license in a primary discipline (e.g., radiography). Medical Imaging & Radiation Therapy Professionals from Canada or Mexico

Medical imaging professionals (radiography, nuclear medicine, sonography, MRI, or CT technology) and radiation therapists must complete the same exams/certifications as described above for US candidates. In the case of ARRT exams, applicants' training programs must be accredited by a body acceptable to the ARRT (see their Certification FAQ), or else the applicants should seek advanced placement in an accredited program.

The ARDMS has several routes to exam eligibility. The NMTCB requires that foreign-trained applicants undergo an evaluation to determine whether they are eligible to write the certification exam.

Visa Information: Medical imaging professionals and radiation therapists are not covered under NAFTA. A US work visa must be obtained before being allowed entry to the US and employment in the US, and usually sponsorship is required. Please contact the nearest US Embassy or Consulate to inquire about obtaining a US work visa.

You can also find more information about various types of immigrant and non-immigrant employment visas on the US Citizenship and Immigration Services website and on the State Department.
