Meg Jordan, PhD, RN ![]()
Meg Jordan, PhD, RN, wears many caps: founder and editor in chief of American Fitness magazine; writer of syndicated health columns, scripts, and videos; patient counselor at the Health Medicine Institute in northern California; and the host of a radio show. "I know it seems schizophrenic, but really it's not," says the former director of a cardiac rehabilitation unit. "Everything I've done has the goal of introducing people to noninvasive, nontechnical, healing remedies." For her PhD (in clinical medical anthropology and behavioral medicine), Jordan studied homeopathic medicine in England, ayurvedics in India, folk medicine in Nepal, indigenous healing in Mexico, and the role of shamans in Peru and Ecuador. "I have huge respect for the shaman," she says. "He uses prayers, rattlers, and plants – but son of a gun, he cures the illness. We may not understand it, but sometimes magic works."
