Mixing Music and Medicine

"Dr. J", a family practitioner in Calgary, Alberta, indulges his artistic side by acting, singing, and playing the guitar. He plays regular gigs in local clubs and has three CDs of his own original compositions (a mix of folk, blues, and jazz) under his belt: Floating, Black Cloud, and It Really Don't Change Much …. Other performance credits include three years as creator and host of Dr. J's Funny Body Part of the Week on the 66CFR morning radio show in Calgary and appearances in numerous theatrical productions: musicals, comedies, and dramas. He has appeared on local and national television programs and commercials – even playing a businessman in a Toyota commercial that aired in Japan.

When asked how he finds the time for everything, Dr. J simply says: "I never watch TV." He admits, however, that this causes problems when a casting director tells him to play a role in the same way as a specific TV character.

Despite all the extracurricular activities, he has no plans to give up medicine, "I really enjoy it. I tell people who complain to lighten up. We've got the best job in the world!"
