Understanding the Child's View

Lynn Reiser, MD, Psychiatrist, New Haven, Connecticut.

Dr. Lynn Whisnant Reiser is a Yale clinical professor of psychiatry and longtime artist. She is on the faculty of The Western New England Institute for Psychoanalysis and works with adults and older adolescents in her Connecticut practice.

But as an internationally renowned children's author/illustrator, Reiser has produced 20 of the picture books found on recommended reading lists (along with books by Beatrix Potter, Dr. Seuss, and Margaret Wise Brown).

She draws on her study of childhood development and her own memories to create stories from a child's perspective. In her award-winning books such as The Surprise Family, Little Clam, and Margaret and Margarita, Reiser explores themes like interspecies nurturing, natural history, bedtime strategies, and friendship transcending language difficulties.

Reiser also speaks on creativity and the role of children's books to nursery/elementary school teachers, librarians, and psychoanalytic institutes.
