BusesOne, a study published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology, looked at pollution inside and outside school buses in Los Angeles. According to the authors of the study entitled Vehicle Self-Pollution Intake Fraction: Children's Exposure to School Bus Emissions, children riding the buses breathe seven to 70 times more exhaust each day than a typical Los Angeles resident breathing school bus emissions. And the study states, "Because of self-pollution, school buses are more effective than an average vehicle at delivering emissions to children's lungs." BulliesA study released in the April 2005 issue of the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine wanted to see if cognitive stimulation, emotional support, and television viewing at age four is independently associated with being a bully through the ages of six to 11. In short? Yes. According to the study, the more TV a four-year-old watches, the more the child is likely to become a bully, while the more a child is paid attention to by his/her parents and mentally stimulated (e.g., read to, played with), the less likely the child is to become a bully. (Somehow, I think this is proof of what people suspected all along, as opposed to "news.") Discuss This ArticleHave something you'd like to say? Tell us what you think!
