Doha, Qatar

Doha, the capital, and commercial and cultural center of Qatar, is located on a bay along the eastern coast of the country. Doha has a population of 328,500, which represents the majority of Qatar's population. The city has both an international airport and international seaport.

Whether your tastes are modern or historic, you can find both in Doha – and you won't be at a loss for public gardens, either! Two major landmarks are the Qatar National Museum and the scenic, seven-kilometer (4.5-mile) Corniche along the bay. The Corniche is a great place to walk or jog, or simply to sit and watch the ships float by. From the Corniche, you can also access plenty of family-friendly sites, such as Al-Rumaila Park, which includes a market, dining facilities, and amusement rides for children, or Palm Tree Island, with beaches, cafés, and watersports facilities, and which is located about 10 minutes by boat from the Corniche.

Other opportunities to get out abound, whether you want to play a few rounds at the 18-hole Doha Golf Club, or would prefer taking a desert safari, or would like to stroll through a traditional outdoor market, or would rather tour historic sites. And when you want to get inside and avoid the sun for awhile, you won't be disappointed by the variety of options, ranging from malls, to restaurants, nightclubs, and bars (most major hotels serve alcohol), to cinemas, to ice skating!
