Residents of Aiea, a suburb of Honolulu, proudly claim their community to be the only town in the world spelled solely with vowels. It's also a town with a great deal of history, especially during World War II, since it has several miles of shoreline on Pearl Harbor, and at the time was home to several military installations. Previous to World War II, Aiea was a town on it's own, and its economy was based in sugar cane farming. After WWII the sugar cane plantation closed and became a sugar refinery.
