Feel the fresh ocean breezes, as you walk down Atlantic City's most famous attraction, the Boardwalk. Though some might believe this city to be synonymous with bright lights and Donald Trump's casino, it is actually a great place for families. Kids will love Storybook Land, a place where your favorite classics come alive in interactive exhibits. Smithville is a place for the whole family: The historic village is lined with cobblestone walkways and features interesting stores and small, local galleries for the adults and train and paddleboat rides for the kids. For a more action-oriented experience, check out Tuckerton Seaport, a recreated marina, where you can see oystermen, baymen, and boat builders at work. If rides are your thing, head to Steel Pier, an amusement park on the boardwalk. Of course, the most spectacular aspect of Atlantic City is the natural environment. The ocean nourishes a rich array of wildlife, which can be best seen at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge.

Obviously, the casinos are only a small part of life in Atlantic City. While you may want to roll the dice on occasion, you'll find many other things to keep you busy the rest of the time. And for day trips, the city is only 58 miles (93 kilometers) southeast of Philadelphia and 99 miles (159 kilometers) south of New York City. Atlantic City is quickly becoming the place to live in southern New Jersey. Come ride the wave of its rebirth.
