Although I have lived in and traveled to many countries around the world all of my life – and hold more than one passport – I am an Aussie through and through. I love my country, and here's why you'll love it, too! With its iron-rich, red-dirt outback, white-sand beaches, unusual wildlife, and even rainforests, Australia is one of the oldest and most ecologically and topographically diverse lands in the world. But, in contrast, it is also one of the youngest modern-settled countries in the world (Australia was "settled" by the English in 1788). People have a specific vision of Australia before travelling here: Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, Bondi Beach, the Kimberley Gorges, Darwin's crocodiles (thanks to Steve Irwin), Ayres Rock, bleach-blond surfers, and reverse seasons. Australia is definitely all this. However, it is much, much more. Whatever you love to do and whatever your passion, you will find it here. Would you believe that Australia has culture other than Foster's beer and meat pies? Well it does. There's Melbourne Fashion Week, where Australia's finest designers show their wares to the world, and there's Sydney's exciting theater scene. We also have a vibrant music scene, a thriving film production industry, and, of course, excellent wines (when you move here, you'll never have to buy an overpriced, bad wine again). Australia is also a land of many faces. A dining experience can include anything from Vietnamese to nouveau Japanese to Nepalese. Add in Australia's own indigenous population, and you can see this country has a wonderful diversity. Australia is also a sports-mad country. We love our swimming, cricket, rugby, and Aussie Rules Footy. We have unbelievable scuba diving at the Great Barrier Reef and skiing and snowboarding at Falls Creek. And we even get excited about local events: in Perth, there's an annual 11-kilometer (seven-mile) open-water swim to Rottnest Island – half the city gets into boats and cheers the swimmers onto victory and then attends a night at the pub afterward. This leads me to the best thing about living in Australia: the people. While lining up at customs, after returning from living overseas for a few years, people chatted to me, asked me where I'd been, if I was returning home, and then helped me with my bag. At first, I was uncomfortable – what did they want? I didn't know them! And then I realized. I had forgotten. People are friendly here! They're genuine and easygoing: They say g'day and give a hand when you need it. What more could you ask for? See our 1 Job in Australia Websites for this CountryGovernment:
