Baltimore is also known as Charm City – which is not surprising given its scenic harbor, lovely historical neighborhoods, and energetic multiethnic community. Baltimore is home to the Orioles baseball team, the Ravens NFL franchise, and the Blast soccer franchise, as well as the famous Pimlico Race Course, so you can have your share of spectator sports before heading out on your own. If you like a slower pace, why not go golfing, go boating, or join the Baltimore Walking Club. Not quite that active? Or is it raining (which is no problem, as Baltimore was home to the first umbrella in the US)? How about spending the afternoon at a museum? Check out the wonderful collections at the American Visionary Art Museum, the Baltimore Museum of Arts, and the Walters Art Museum. Kids will like the Antique Toy Museum. Or how about Babe Ruth's Birthplace and Museum? Got kids? Head off to the Baltimore Zoo, the National Aquarium, or the Maryland Science Center. Take them to a park – even one where they might learn something, like at Fort McHenry National Historic Site or the Cylburn Arboretum. You'll need to eat to keep your energy up for your fitness fun. In Maryland, I recommend Chesapeake Bay seafood. But since not everyone likes seafood, you'll also find Japanese, Asian Fusion, Chinese, Italian, Greek, French, Cuban, Spanish, and Southern gastronomic delights. And since you've eaten and aren't tired yet, how about a night on the town? Head for a theatrical production of Center Stage, Everyman Theatre, or the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival. Or take in an operatic spectacle by the Baltimore Opera Company. Maybe listen to the soaring sounds of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Whether you're looking for something on your day off in January (average temperature 31F/0C) or in July (average temperature 77F/25C), you'll find something to do – and can have great seafood before or after.
