The capital city of Louisiana, located on the mighty Mississippi River, is renowned for its exciting atmosphere, distinctive scenery, lively music, and great cuisine. The city's architecture gives it a great depth of character, and many historical buildings within the city have been preserved and are often used to house cultural or historic exhibits. The Old Louisiana State Capitol (not to be confused with the modern Louisiana State Capitol building, also in Baton Rouge), for instance, hosts exhibits on Louisiana's exciting history. Standing since 1819, the Old Arsenal Museum tells the story of the state's military history. And the Old Governor's Mansion was built to simulate the White House and has tours of its grandiose interior and grounds. Not really architectural (and a little eerie), but a must-see, are the city's famed scenic cemeteries with aboveground plots. Baton Rouge is definitely a haven for creative musicians, and the city hosts a multitude of blues and jazz clubs and organizations, such as the BTRBlues, The Baton Rouge Jazz Ensemble, and the Baton Rouge Concert Band. While jiving to the music, the city's 227,818 citizens can enjoy the spicy Cajun cooking at one of the many distinctive restaurants within the city. This city also knows how to party and has an extensive festival schedule. With nearly 40 festivals on the go during the peak season, it's surprising people go indoors at all. The most popular event is the Baton Rouge Mardi Gras – locals are so exited by this event they begin celebrating with parades weeks before Mardi Gras. With plenty to see and even more to do, Baton Rouge is the home of a good time. See our 7 Jobs in Baton Rouge, Louisiana Websites for this CityGovernment:
