Bonnyville, Alberta

Set amongst a vast network of lakes and rivers northeast of Edmonton, near the Saskatchewan border, is the small Alberta town of Bonnyville.

Bonnyville was settled in the late-18th century by a Scotsman named Angus Shaw. A fur-trade outpost for the North West Company, the town attracted Native Canadian, French, and English settlers over the years, who brought their own customs and traditions to the area, giving it a unique multicultural spirit. In 1984, in recognition of this history, Bonnyville formed a relationship as a sister city with Bonneville, France.

Today, Bonnyville continues to act as a service center for the area, supporting a community of 5,709 people. Tourism also plays a major role in the Bonnyville area.
