Bozeman, Montana

Bozeman is located in the Gallatin Valley of southwestern Montana. The city is spectacularly set with the Bridger Mountains to the northeast, the Tobacco Root Mountains to the west, the Big Belt Mountains to the north, the Hyalites to the south, and the Spanish Peaks and Gallatin Range to the southwest. Bozeman, which has a population of 27,509, is the seat of Gallatin County. Bozeman is located 85 miles (137 kilometers) southeast of Butte and 98 miles (158 kilometers) southeast of the capital, Helena.

Outdoor enthusiasts will be in heaven in Bozeman. The city is on the northern edge of the 1.8-million-acre (728,434-hectare) Gallatin National Forest, which spans six mountain ranges and is part of the Greater Yellowstone Area. And speaking of Yellowstone, Bozeman is only about 1.5 hours drive north of the northern edge of Yellowstone National Park! But back to the national forests, in the near vicinity of Bozeman are also Custer National Forest, Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, Bitterroot National Forest, and Helena National Forest! And when winter comes, skiers can head to the Bridger Bowl ski resort just outside town, or to Big Sky Resort or Moonlight Basin, both about an hour from town. Don't like hills? No worries: Cross-country skiing sites are abundant! Outdoor enthusiasts: Need I say more?!

When you can tear yourself away from the outdoors, you'll also find things to do inside! Fans of classical music can enjoy the sounds of the Bozeman Symphony. Like drama in your life? See a show by the Equinox Theatre Company, The Players Theatre Company, or the Vigilante Theatre Company. Those who want to learn about the natural and cultural history of the area can spend time at the Museum of the Rockies. And attention parents: The museum has some great dinosaur stuff! Kids and computer buffs will enjoy the American Computer Museum which – despite the name – spans 20,000 years of technology! And speaking of occupying the kids, the younger set will also enjoy the Children's Museum of Bozeman. Great days can be had in town by visiting the 100+ stores and restaurants in the downtown area. And let's not forget community events and festivals, such as Bite Of Bozeman on the historic Main Street, HATCHfest (which celebrates the arts), Wild West Winterfest, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, and more!

I was sold on Bozeman more than a paragraph ago – how about you?
