Branson, Missouri

Branson is located in southern Missouri, 42 miles (68 kilometers) south of the state capital of Springfield. The city is part of Taney County, and is home to 6,050 people.

Branson first became a tourist destination in the early 1900s, when Harold Bell Wright used the city and the beautiful Ozarks as the setting for his book The Shepherd of the Hills. Branson became a center for country music in the 1950s, and the tradition continues today with the Gene Williams Country Music Television Show.
