Bristol, Connecticut

Bristol is a city of 60,062 located in central Connecticut, 12 miles (19 kilometers) northeast of Waterbury and 18 miles (29 kilometers) southwest of Hartford. It is part of Hartford County, and is home to 60,062 people.

Clock making was one of Bristol's early industries, and a visit to the American Clock & Watch Museum will transport you to times gone by. More than 1,400 American and international time pieces are on display, including watches from 1595 and clocks from 1680. For another dose of nostalgia, visit the New England Carousel Museum to see one of the largest carousel collections in the country and ride a merry-go-round that's more than 90 years old! In the same building, you'll also find the Bristol Center for Arts and Culture, the Museum of Fire History, the Fine Art Gallery, and the future home of the Greek Museum of Art and History. The Bristol Historical Society offers more glimpses into the city's past, and houses the Bristol Armory and the Bristol Sports Hall of Fame.

Speaking of sports, did you know that Bristol is the home of the ESPN Digital Sports Broadcasting Center? Athletes of all ages can take advantage of the city's recreation programs and Bristol's excellent parks and facilities. Kids aged 10 to 12 can hone their baseball skills at the Giamatti Little League Regional Center. The Barnes Memorial Nature Center offers scenic hiking trails along with displays on New England's habitats and critters.

Lake Compounce Theme Park is one of Connecticut's best family attractions, and offers high-speed roller coasters, huge waterslides, an antique trolley, and live entertainment. The younger set will also love a visit to the Imagination Nation children's museum, with its interactive exhibits on science, nature, the arts, and technology.

Local performing arts groups include the Bristol Brass & Wind Ensemble, the Bristol Symphony, and Bristol Theatre Arts. The Chrysanthemum Festival is one of the most anticipated events of the year, and features a parade, auto show, beauty contest, and other activities.
