Located within the Dallas, Houston, and Austin Triangle, Bryan has a population of 65,660 and is located within a 180-mile (290-kilometer) radius of 80% of Texas's population.

Like many communities throughout Texas, Bryan and the neighboring community of College Station were founded with the expansion of the railroad through the Western United States. Today, while agriculture still plays a role in Brazo County, Bryan's economy has become closely tied to farming, research, and education. With the presence of both Texas A&M University and the Agricultural Experimentation Center, a variety of different research is performed in the area. In particular, Bryan's cultural identity revolves around Texas A&M University, an institution focusing on agricultural and mechanical studies – it's no surprise Bryan is often referred to as Aggieland due to its agricultural roots. The student population also contributes the entertainment area of Northgate, which has also become a major destination for both visitors and residents alike. With the Dixie Chicken, Tex-Mex, Japanese, and Chinese, Northgate has culinary options to suit all tastes.

Other attractions in Bryan include the Historic Downtown core, currently undergoing a process of renovation and rejuvenation. For academic and historical pursuits, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and the Carnegie Center of the Brazos Valley are centrally located in town. Wine enthusiasts may be interested by the Messina Hof Winery & Resort, which has produced a variety of award-winning vintages over the years.
