Caldwell, Idaho, is situated near the Oregon state border, 13 miles (21 kilometers) northwest of Nampa, 17 miles (27 kilometers) west of Meridian, and 26 miles (42 kilometers) west of Boise. The city is on the Boise River, and is part of Idaho's Treasure Valley. Caldwell is the seat of Canyon County, and is home to 25,967 residents. There's always something going on in the Caldwell Events Center five complexes. The O'Connor Field House is the site of dances and community events, Charolias Barn is used for livestock shows, and Simplot Stadium hosts sporting events. The Events Center is also the site of Canyon County Fair and the popular Caldwell Night Rodeo. Other special events include Buckaroo Breakfast, Blues in the Park, and the Cinco de Mayo Hispanic heritage festival. Recreational opportunities abound in Caldwell. The city offers two golf courses, 10 parks, and a number of sports fields and facilities. The Boise River is a wonderful site for fishing and boating, and provides a scenic backdrop for picnics. The Boise National Forest provides 2.6 million acres (one million hectares) of wilderness to explore.
