Caldwell, located in central Texas, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) southwest of Bryan and College Station, is known as the Kolache capital of Texas. Kolache (small, stuffed pastries) are a traditional Czech dish, and since much of the citizens of the area have Czech heritage, the Kolache is a feature of the menus of many local restaurants.

And each year the Czech music, dancing, and baking competitions of the Kolache Festival bring an eastern European flavor to the community. Not to be forgotten, the annual Caldwell Youth Rodeo celebrates Texas's western agricultural heritage.

Horse farms, ranches, and agricultural plots that make up the surrounding area. But in addition to farming, heavy industry and oil production are parts of the local economy.
