Canton, Ohio

The northeastern Ohio city of Canton is the county seat of Stark County. Canton is located 23 miles (37 kilometers) south of Akron, 59 miles (95 kilometers) south of Cleveland, and 93 miles (150 kilometers) west of Pittsburgh.

Presidential history buffs can visit the Wm. McKinley Presidential Library & Museum (McKinley was president from 1897 until his assassination in 1901), as well as the National First Ladies' Library.

Speaking of history, Canton is home to the Canton Classic Car Museum, while nearby Alliance is home to the Haines House Underground Railroad Site and Glamorgan Castle, which dates to 1909. And sports fans take note: Canton is the site of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and of course to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival, which is held in July and August.

For lovers of the arts, there are many things to enjoy: the Canton Ballet, the Canton Symphony Orchestra, and The Players Guild Theatre, as well as the Canton Museum of Art.

Canton enjoys a four season climate, with January highs averaging 33F (.5C) and July highs averaging 82F (28C). To help you enjoy the outdoors, the city maintains approximately 60 parks, and the county has 21 public and private golf courses. And for more serious outdoor fun, the 33,000-acre (13,355-hectare) Cuyahoga Valley National Park is only about 50 miles (81 kilometers) north of the city. If this isn't enough, the Canton area also has several state parks within an hour's drive or less, including Portage Lakes, Quail Hollow, West Branch, Guilford Lake, and Lake Milton.
