The city of Carlsbad is located on the Pacific coast in San Diego County, 35 miles (56 kilometers) north of San Diego, four miles (six kilometers) south of Oceanside, and 87 miles (140 kilometers) south of Los Angeles. The community was named in the 1800s after a popular European spa. Carlsbad is a great place to enjoy the arts. Take in performances of New Village Arts Theatre. In the summer, enjoy performances at the TGIF Jazz in the Park festival. In September, taken in ArtSplash, which includes art displays and sales, chalk street art, and live performances. Shoppers won't be bored in Carlsbad. For example, you can enjoy shopping at downtown's Carlsbad Village, which not only includes the Village Faire Shopping Centre, but a variety of restaurants, boutiques, and antique stores. If you have kids, you may already know about one of the popular family attractions in Carlsbad: Legoland, with more than 50 rides and attractions to enjoy. Or if you or a family member have a green thumb, you'll know all about The Flower Fields, where in the spring, you can enjoy 50 acres (20 hectares) of blooming ranunculus (a type of buttercup) gardens, overlooking the Pacific. The weather is great in Carlsbad. Temperatures average 58F (14C) in January and 73F (23C) in July, with a low average rainfall, so you might as well get out and enjoy the outdoors. In town, residents can enjoy any of the community's many parks or 17.7 miles (28 kilometers) of trails. Stroll along each of Carlsbad's three lagoons – Agua Hedionda, Batiquitos, and Buena Vista – each with distinctive ecosystems, and do some bird watching. And then there's the beach – well, beaches! Spend many sunny days enjoying South Carlsbad State Beach or Carlsbad State Beach. At the former, you can enjoy activities like swimming, surfing, skin diving, fishing, picnicking, and camping, while at the latter, you can go swimming, surfing, scuba diving, fishing and beachcombing. And of course, there are more beaches an easy drive away. And even if you don't like the beach, you can explore inland parks, such as Palomar Mountain State Park, about 28 miles (45 kilometers) northeast. Arts, fun, shopping, sun, and sand – just a few things to enjoy in Carlsbad. See our 1 Job in Carlsbad, California Websites for this CityGovernment:
