Have you ever wanted to live in the snowcapped mountains? If so, here's your chance! You can live the adventure of world-class skiing or mountain climbing, or whitewater rafting or kayaking and still be home in time for a civilized dinner in a posh restaurant! However, Colorado isn't just snow-capped mountains, the geography ranges from the mountains, to desert mesas, to prairie grassland. Wherever you end up, you're bound to have some sort of adventure! The largest city in the state is, by far, the mile high city, Denver. With 2,179,240 people in it's metro area, it is the 20th largest city in the US. In fact, 50% of the state's population live within this metro area. It is considered the most "educated" city in the US, with 35% of its residents having at least a bachelor degree. It is also considered the "thinnest" city in the US, having the least amount of obese people per capita (must be that fresh mountain air). Denver is also one of the sunniest cities in the US, recording on average 300 days of sunshine per year. Colorado Springs is the state's second largest city. By some, it is considered it the city that America the Beautiful is based on, because the composer, Katharine Lee Bates, wrote the lyrics after a trip to the summit of Pike's Peak. It is home to incredible history and culture, and quite a few hi-tech companies, like Hewlett-Packard. Some famous residents include Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, and Lon Chaney. Grand Junction, located in the extreme west of the state, is Colorado's wine country. In the valleys between the mountains are located farms and 13 wineries. With its population of only 41,986, it is the biggest city in the western portion of the state. Here you can experience that small-town charm, without having to give up city convenience. In the southwest section of the state, near Durango, one can witness Mesa Verde, where one can see the ancient cliffside dwellings of the Pueblo Indians. Durango is also a small town, home to only 13,922 people. If you really want to get away from it all, Durango would be good for you. If you love whitewater, than Durango would also be a good choice for you. Enjoy Colorado! See our 764 Jobs in Colorado Discuss This ArticleHave something you'd like to say? Tell us what you think!
