Cody, Wyoming

The city of Cody is located in northern Wyoming, 52 miles (84 kilometers) east of Yellowstone National Park and 107 miles (172 kilometers) south of Billings, Montana. It is the county seat of Park County, and home to 8,835 people.

The community was named after its founder Buffalo Bill Cody, and is home to the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. This enormous complex includes five museums, and is one of the nation's finest Western history attractions. Here, you can earn about the life and times of the famous buffalo hunter and showman at the Buffalo Bill Museum, or explore the secrets of the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem at the Draper Museum of Natural History. The Plains Indian Museum contains one of the finest Native American collections in the US, while the Cody Firearms Museum houses the world's largest collection of American firearms. You can also experience the Wild West through the eyes of artists at the Whitney Gallery of Western Art.

Other attractions include Old Trail Town, which features historic buildings dating from 1879 to 1900, including the Hole in the Wall Cabin used by Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, and the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang. Tecumseh's Old West Miniature Village and Museum is a great destination for kids and adults alike, and features thousands of miniature figures that depict the history of the region from the 1600s to the late 1890s.
