Cold Lake, which is situated approximately 165 kilometers (103 miles) north of Lloydminster and 300 kilometers (186 miles) northeast of Edmonton, is greatly influenced by its beautiful surrounding environment. The city's 11,520 residents are spoiled with activity options. There's excellent skiing at nearby Kinosoo Ridge and fabulous hiking, camping, and boating at Cold Lake Provincial Park. Fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling are also popular recreational pursuits. And for sailors, Cold Lake has the largest inland marina in western Canada.

In particular, a large portion of industry is focused around the Cold Lake oil sands and 4 Wing Cold Lake, Canada's largest air force base.
