Collingwood, Ontario

Set roughly 1.5 hours north of Toronto, this small town, located on the southern edge of Georgian Bay, is in the Georgian Triangle and part of what is affectionately known by Canadians as "cottage country." City slickers come here to escape the hustle and bustle, so many of the residences, especially along the lake, are vacation homes, which are most in use in the summer months.

During the summer, people travel here to swim, kayak, and water ski on the lake, lie on one of the many beaches, golf on one of the many courses, hike or bike along the paths that link to the Georgian and Bruce trails, and stroll along the main street of town to look at the boutiques and gift shops and eat in the many restaurants and bars.

In the winter, Blue Mountain (Ontario's largest mountain resort) attracts skiers and snowboarders to its 34 trails, which include beginner runs as well as challenging black diamonds. Due to the area's abundance of trees, the fall and spring are all about color, in fact the area is renowned for its beautiful fall foliage.

For permanent residents, Collingwood, Ontario, is a peaceful community that's great for lovers of the outdoors.
