Coquitlam, British Columbia

Coquitlam is located in British Columbia's Lower Mainland, about 32 kilometers (20 miles) east of Vancouver.

Settlement of Coquitlam can be traced back to the 1860s, when the area was known as the "place-in-between," because of its position adjacent to an east-west corridor linking New Westminster with Port Moody. Early settlers were largely former miners who turned to agriculture, although Coquitlam's past was also shaped in large part by French Canadian workers from Quebec, who helped establish the local lumber industry in nearby community of Maillardville.

Today, Coquitlam is a growing city with a distinctly multicultural population. The city's town center is pedestrian-friendly and provides access to nature and hiking trails that run along Hoy Creek and the Coquitlam River. It's also where you'll find Coquitlam's Town Centre Stadium & Park, as well as the City Centre Aquatic Complex. And downtown Coquitlam is home to the Evergreen Cultural Centre, a theatre and an art gallery that acts as a focal point for the community's cultural life.

Nearby Minnekhada Regional Park and Pinecone Burke Provincial Park provide excellent opportunities for residents of Coquitlam to enjoy the British Columbia's great outdoors. And Coquitlam's ideal location also offers easy access to Whistler to the north, as well as the Pacific coast to the west.
