Cranbrook, British Columbia

Located at the junction of the Purcell Mountains and the famed Rocky Mountains, the city of Cranbrook offers unrivalled recreational opportunities and a high quality of life. But that's not the important thing – Cranbrook boasts that it gets the most sunshine in all of Canada!

Skiing is definitely a right of passage for anyone who wants to make Cranbrook home. Just 20 minutes away from the city is the beautiful Kimberley Alpine Resort. A little further out are a number of other famous resorts including Banff, Red Mountain, and Fernie. For those who like to take their recreation time a bit more slowly, check out the area's beautiful hot springs. Relax those muscles at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort and the Radium Hot Springs. Both offer therapeutic mineral baths that are sure to fix all your ailments. Best of all, you're surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery.

Cranbrook is also a city that works hard to provide activities for youth. The city-built Viking Youth Park is a skateboarder's paradise, where young people can show off their best tricks on the park's wild ramps and jumps. The city also has a fabulous sports complex, the Cranbrook RecPlex – complete with a wave pool, a swimming pool, and an arena that is home to the Kootenay Ice Hockey Club, this facility is an excellent resource for the community.

Arts and culture play a big role in Cranbrook. The Key City Theatre regularly shows plays and concerts. For a bit of history, check out the Fort Steele Heritage Town, which is a monument to the Cranbrook area's rich railway history and takes you back to life in the 1890s. Stroll over to Jack Corrigan's Harness Shop to watch a leather artisan finish off your newest belt or set of sleigh bells. You can also check out the local blacksmith, go for a ride on a refurbished steam train, or pan for gold as they did during the Kootenay Gold Rush.

Besides arts and recreation, the community offers excellent shopping in its downtown area, and also at the Tamarack Mall. And, the US border just a short drive away.
