Daly City, California

Daly City is located in southern California, just six miles (10 kilometers) southwest of San Francisco. It is part of San Mateo County, and home to 103,621 people.

Daly City is situated on the San Francisco Peninsula, between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay. This ideal location gave the community its nickname of "Gateway to the Peninsula." The community was named after dairy owner and business leader John Daly, and expanded rapidly after the 1906 San Francisco fire and earthquake. In the 2000 census, Daly City was ranked the sixth most densely populated city in the US, and had the highest percentage of Asian-Americans (50.7%) among major American cities.

Located in the Serramonte Main Library, the museum chronicles the history of the city from 1859 to the present, and also has special seasonal and commemorative exhibits throughout the year. Daly City is also home to a number of parks and community centers, and offers more than 500 classes through its Parks and Recreation Department.
