Settled by Spanish Missionaries in the early 19th century, Delano was initially home to a vast network of Yorkut Indians. Formal settlement came with the assistance of the Southern Pacific Railroad, and while many sought their fortunes in the mines of the Greenhorn Mountains, others came to eke out a farm life in the San Joaquin Valley.

Today, Delano is known as the Table Grape Capital of the World. Moderate year-round temperatures, good soil conditions, and ample precipitation throughout the region create excellent growing conditions for a variety of produce.
