El Paso, "where Texas meets Old Mexico," is located across the Rio Grande from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and only a few miles east and south of the Texas-New Mexico border. Not far north of El Paso are Fort Bliss and the White Sands Missile Range. You won't be at a loss for things to do in this city of 563,662. Head out with family and friends to explore area parks, such as Franklin Mountains State Park, which is within the city limits of El Paso, and at 24,247.56 acres (9,812.64 hectares) is the largest urban park in the country. While there, get a good look at your new home by heading up the Wyler Aerial Tramway, where from Ranger Peak, 5,632 feet (1,717 meters) above sea level, you can enjoy a view of two US states and one Mexican state (Chihuahua). Or you can learn about area history at locations like Magoffin Home State Historic Site and Hueco Tanks State Historic Site. Those who enjoy the performing arts can take in productions by the El Paso Opera Company, the El Paso Symphony Orchestra, and more, while museum mavens will find facilities to suit many tastes, including the El Paso Museum of Art, the El Paso Museum of History, and the Museum of Archaeology at Wilderness Park. Families can spend time together at the El Paso Zoo, an 18-acre (seven-hectare) facility that's home to 240 species of animals, or by riding the rides at Western Playland Amusement Park, or cooling off during the summer heat at Wet N' Wild Water World in nearby Anthony. Speaking of cooling off, El Paso enjoys a sunny climate, with June highs average at 95F (35C), and January and December highs average at 57F (14C). If sports are your thing, head to home games of the El Paso Diablos baseball team or the El Paso Patriots soccer team, as well as the UTEP college teams. (Remember, the Sun Bowl is in El Paso!) Golfers will love the fact that El Paso has four private golf courses, two military courses, and seven public courses. One of these public courses is the 27-hole Painted Dunes Desert Golf Course. If you like community events, you'll find plenty in El Paso. To name a few, check out the KLAQ International Balloonfest, the Music Under the Stars World Festival, or the El Paso Downtown Street Festival. And who could resist a trip to the city's Harvest Market which runs from July to October? Sun, family fun, and more are waiting for you in El Paso!
