Enterprise, Alabama

The city of Enterprise is located in southern Alabama, just north of the Florida state border. It is 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of Dothan, 82 miles (132 kilometers) southeast of Montgomery, and 123 miles (198 kilometers) northwest of Tallahassee, Florida. Enterprise has a population of 21,178, and is part of Coffee County.

Newcomers should take a walking tour through the city, and be sure to stop at the 1903 Rawls Historic Hotel. The old train station has been converted to the Pea River Historical Society Depot Museum, which contains many fascinating artifacts. You can also step back in time at the Little Red Schoolhouse, with its antique desks, period schoolbooks, and potbellied stove.

In 1915, a severe boll weevil infestation destroyed two-thirds of Coffee County's cotton crop. Ultimately, this turned out to be a blessing in disguise, since the incident forced local farmers to diversify their crops. Later, residents erected the Boll Weevil monument – the world's only monument to a pest. Enterprise is also home to the Weevil City Cruisers and holds an annual Boll Weevil Art and Crafts Festival. You can also pay a visit to the Boll Weevil Soap Company, which makes skincare products from peanuts and cotton blossoms.

Enterprise is located next to the US Army Aviation Warfighting Center and Fort Rucker. Visitors can see a Huey helicopter on display, and the Aviator Monument and the Walk of Generals commemorates the achievements of local aviators.

The Tartan Pines Golf Club features an 18-hole, par 72 course that's sure to delight any golfer. Enterprise Recreational Complex is great for family outings, and contains a beautiful lake, playground, picnic pavilion, and walking trails.
