Estevan is a city of 10,242 set in southeastern Saskatchewan. It is located slightly north of the Canada/US border, 200 kilometers (124 miles) southeast of Regina and 190 kilometers (118 miles) northwest of Minot, North Dakota. Estevan is nicknamed "The Energy City," since coal mining, power generation, and oil and gas are major industries. Guided Energy Tours offer a fascinating look at some local mines and power plants, and attract visitors from both sides of the border. You can also opt for a guided historic walking tour, where a costumed guide will lead you through the city and share stories from Estevan's past. A visit to the Souris Valley Museum will round out your knowledge of local history. Highlights of the museum include a 1908 schoolhouse, antique vehicles, and artifacts from the pre-European era to the 1940s. The Estevan Art Gallery & Museum is another top attraction. The museum portion focuses on the history of the North West Mounted Police, while the art gallery features permanent and changing exhibits. On the performing arts front, you can enjoy two productions by the Souris Valley Theatre each summer. Looking for something out of the ordinary? Then head to the Canadian Crop Circle Research Museum and decide for yourself whether these mysterious formations are the result of UFOs or electromagnetic forces, or are just an elaborate hoax. Want to get your heart pounding? Then check out the weekend races at the Estevan Motor Speedway or join the Estevan Drag Racing Association. Sports fans can cheer on the Estevan Bruins hockey team during the winter and the Estevan Minor Baseball team during the summer. Summer also brings the annual fair in June and the pro rodeo in July, both held at the Estevan Exhibition. The Souris Valley Leisure Centre is a great place for a workout, and features an aquatic center, squash courts, exercise and weight rooms, and activities for all ages. The Lignite Miners Center offers ice skating and hockey between October and April, and rollerblading and skate boarding during the summer. Estevan also boasts a skatepark, curling club, ball diamonds, and play parks. The Civic Auditorium is the home of the Estevan Bruins, and also hosts concerts and other events. On the weekend, you can tee off on the Woodlawn Golf Club's 18-hole championship course, then spend the rest of the day fishing, hiking, and picnicking in Woodlawn Regional Park. Want introduce your kids to the joys of golf? Then head to the Hidden Valley Golf Resort, which features mini golf, a par-3 course, and a driving range. The resort also offers go-karts, a playground, and plenty of campsites for overnight visitors. Looking for a small city that's bursting with energy?
