Fayetteville, Arkansas

The city of Fayetteville is located in northwestern Arkansas, nine miles (14 kilometers) south of Springdale and 113 miles (182 kilometers) east of Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is the seat of Washington County, and is home to 58,047 people.

Headquarters House is one of Fayetteville's premier historic attractions, and had been commandeered by both Union and Confederate troops during the Civil War. The building has been beautifully restored, and is now the starting point for the walking tour of the city's Washington-Willow Historic District. The Arkansas Air Museum is another great attraction, and explores the area's 80 years of aviation history. History buffs should also drive out to the Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park, which is one of the best preserved Civil War battlefields in the nation.

The University of Arkansas gives Fayetteville a great college town atmosphere. To broaden your mind, visit the University Museum, which has great exhibits on archeology, natural history, geology, and regional history. You'll also find many exciting Razorbacks home games on campus. The Tommy Boyer Hall of Champions gives a complete overview of the university's basketball, track, and baseball teams, while the Jerry Jones-Jim Lindsey Hall of Champions focuses on the 100-year-long history of Razorback football.

Fayetteville is located in the beautiful Ozark Mountains, and nearby lakes, rivers, and trails promise many outdoor adventures. The city Parks and Recreation Department oversees 42 parks and 17 miles (27 kilometers) of trails, as well recreational activities and free summer concerts. And for more outdoors, Ozark National Forest is a short distance south of the city.

Looking for a night out on the town? Then head to Dickson Street, an entertainment strip filled with clubs, bistros, and galleries. Here you'll also find the Walton Arts Center, a phenomenal venue that offers everything from Broadway shows and symphony performances to live music and visual arts exhibits. The Arkansas Music Pavilion is a popular summertime venue, and has hosted some of the country's leading performers.
