Federal Way, Washington

Federal Way is a community of 83,259, located in the southwestern corner of King County, Washington, the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro area. It's located about eight miles (13 kilometers) northeast of downtown Tacoma and 23 miles (37 kilometers) south of downtown Seattle. The city began as a logging community in the late 1880s, and was only incorporated in 1990.

Federal Way has eight miles (13 kilometers) of Puget Sound shorefront, and experiences mild weather year-round. The average high in July and August is 76 to 77F (24 to 25C), and the average low in December and January is 35F (2C).

There's plenty to do in town. Shoppers will enjoy The Commons at Federal Way, which has more than 100 stores. Kids will be insisting on summer trips to Enchanted Village/Wild Waves amusement park or at least you can claim that your kids insisted that you go. Gardeners can spend hours strolling the 22 acres (nine hectares) of the Rhododendron Species Foundation and Botanical Garden. Beachcombers, swimmers, campers, and anglers will enjoy the local Dash Point State Park. Those who enjoy the performing arts can take in performances by groups such as the Federal Way Symphony or CenterStage.

Outside of town, you can enjoy the great outdoors of the Pacific Northwest! Head to spectactular parks like Mount Rainier National Park, about 60 miles (97 kilometers) southwest. Golfers can enjoy a day on any of several area courses. When winter comes, enjoy skiing at sites like Crystal Mountain, 33 miles (53 kilometers) east or The Summit at Snoqualmie 63 miles (101 kilometers) east.

And of course, you have easy access to all the sports, cultural, and shopping fun to be found in the larger centers of Seattle and Tacoma, as well as all the other cities and towns of the Puget Sound and Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro area!
