Fort Morgan, Colorado

Fort Morgan is a community of 11,034 located in northeastern Colorado. It is the seat of Morgan County, and is situated 82 miles (132 kilometers) northeast of Denver.

The Fort Morgan Museum is the ideal place to learn about local history, with exhibits on Native American life, agriculture, immigration, and more. You can also learn about famous residents like big band leader Glenn Miller, whose recording of Chattanooga Choo Choo became the first RCA gold record in history. Fort Morgan is also home to the United States Military Historical Museum, with an impressive collection that takes you from the Revolutionary War to the Persian Gulf War. Displays include uniforms and weapons, Korean War Jeeps, and even a Huey helicopter. Other heritage attractions include City Hall, Main Street, and the beautiful homes of the Sherman Street Historical District. The 1923 Rainbow Bridge is located just off of Interstate 76, and a walk along the bridge offers stunning views of the South Platte River. The I-76 Speedway is another must-see area attraction, and promises thrilling dirt track racing every Saturday.

The 18-hole Fort Morgan Municipal Golf Course is another popular destination, and promises hours of enjoyable challenges for golfers of all levels. A short drive north brings you to the Pawnee National Grassland, where you can explore the vast plains and the variety of animals that call it home. Visitors also come to admire the Pawnee Buttes, magnificent 250-foot (76-meter) high sandstone columns that tower above the plains. Lastly, be sure to visit Jackson Lake State Park. The 2,700-acre (1,093-hectare) lake provides an ideal site for swimming, fishing, boating, and water-skiing in the summer, and ice fishing and skating during the winter. Other activities include camping, hiking, wildlife viewing, photography, and hunting.
