Framingham, Massachusetts

The town of Framingham is located in Middlesex County. Part of the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy metro area, Framingham is just 20 miles (32 kilometers) west of Boston. With 66,910 residents, Framingham is one of the most populous towns in the United States.

First settled in 1650 and officially incorporated in 1700, Framingham is rich in historical attractions. The Framingham Historical Society and Museum has an extensive collection of artifacts related to the area, ranging from Native American relics to information on multinational corporations headquartered in Framington (namely Staples, Bose, and TJX). The Performing Arts Center of MetroWest hosts a variety of musical, theater, and dance performances, as well as classes for all ages. The Danforth Museum of Art has changing exhibits featuring the works of leading American artists, as well as a Junior Gallery, which showcases the work of aspiring artists selected from local adult and children's art classes.

Garden in the Woods allows visitors to admire the beauty of nature without stepping outside of town boundaries. This 45-acre (18-hectare) site features the largest landscaped collection of wildflowers in New England, and is home to the New England Wildflower Society's headquarters. Nature lovers can observe 1,700 plant species, including 200 rare and endangered native species, in a tranquil setting of oak forest, rolling hills, and sparking streams.

Framingham is also home to the Framingham Heart Study. First began in 1948, this longitudinal study is now on its third generation of participants. The remarkable study has yielded most of our common knowledge regarding cardiovascular health, such as the effects of diet, exercise, and aspirin.

For Framingham residents, all the museums, shops, and cultural attractions of Boston are only a 30-minute drive away.
