Grand Forks, British Columbia

Grand Forks, bordered by the Granby River to the east and the Kettle River to the south, is a natural jewel carved into the landscape of southern British Columbia.

The city, incorporated in 1897, owes its creation to the mining and railroad booms of the 1890s and early 1900s. But the old slag piles are all that remain of the coal mines and smelters, and today's Grand Forks relies predominantly on the lumber industry and tourism to fuel its economy.

And whether it's swimming or tubing in one the town's rivers, or camping, riding, hiking, or skiing at one of the nearby mountains, Grand Forks is an outdoor enthusiast's dream. Christina Lake, located just outside of town, is the warmest tree-lined lake in British Columbia, and provides the beautiful setting for the Christina Lake Golf Club. And three kilometers (two miles) south of the lake you'll find the spectacular gorge of Cascade Falls – the perfect place for an afternoon excursion.

A full range of community services, and full calendar of community events, help to solidify this town's civic spirit. And recreation in Grand Forks isn't restricted to the great outdoors, and includes, as well, activities such as hockey, curling, and baseball.

And don't forget that Grand Forks is also home to the Rock Candy Mine, where you can take the kids to collect their own minerals from nearby deposits.

Spectacular scenery, good weather, community spirit, and a thriving economy help make Grand Forks a great place to be.
