Great Falls, Montana, is the county seat of Cascade County, and home to 56,690 residents. The city is located on the Missouri River, 91 miles (146 kilometers) northeast of the state capital of Helena. A great way of getting to know the city is to take a ride aboard the Historic Trolley. The one-hour city tour takes you past the historic downtown area, period homes, saloons, and museums, as well as beautiful parks and waterfalls. The two-hour tour outside of the city follows the route of Lewis and Clark's famous 1804–1806 expedition, and takes you past three magnificent waterfalls, and the spectacular Giant Springs. Discovered by Lewis and Clark in 1805, Giant Springs is one of the world's largest freshwater springs, and pumps out 156 million gallons (590,524 kiloliters) a day to feed one of the world's shortest rivers – the Roe River. In addition to this natural wonder, the park also features a visitor center, fish hatchery, and scenic picnic sites by the river. The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Interpretive Center will provide you with all the information you need about their historic 8,000 mile voyage, along with guided walks along the area's scenic trails. For a leisurely walk or challenging hike, head to the River's Edge Trail. This multi-stage trail follows the Missouri River, and will take you past scenic points such as the Crooked Falls Overlook, Rainbow Falls, and Cochrane Dam. The trail also leads to Giant Springs State Park where, in addition to the Giant Spring natural wonder, you'll find a visitor center, fish hatchery, and scenic riverside picnic sites. Sports fans will have the White Sox minor league baseball team, and the University of Great Falls' Men's and Ladies' Argos to cheer on. The city also offers two great golf courses, and both downhill and cross-country skiing at nearby Showdown Mountain. Arts and culture are alive and well in Great Falls. The Mansfield Center for the Performing Arts hosts a variety of musical, dance, theater, and other cultural events. On the music scene, there's the Great Falls Symphony Association and the Great Falls Community Concert Association. Great Falls is also home to the CM Russel Museum, which houses the works of the cowboy artist Charlie Russell, the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art, and the host of many art festivals throughout the year. For a day of family fun, head to the Children's Museum of Montana, or spend the day at Gibson Park. Gibson has been called the "jewel of the park system," and offers big band summer concerts, sports facilities, a historic cabin and statues, and many other attractions. Rich in history, home to the arts, and surrounded by natural beauty, Great Falls offers everything you're looking for! See our 15 Jobs in Great Falls, Montana Websites for this CityGovernment:
