Antique collectors can search for that missing collectable or unbelievable bargain in the Jackson Street District, the Antiques Capital of the Rio Grande Valley. Recently revitalized, Jackson Street is lined with antique stores with colorful awnings and old-fashioned street lamps.

Birders flock to the Tropical Playground of Texas, where the semi-tropical climate and being at the convergence of two major flyways, offers excellent birding year-round. If you love birds, but aren't that great at spotting them in their natural habitat, you can also check out the bird sanctuaries and wildlife refuges in and around Harlingen, as well as the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival. And be sure to keep an eye out for the Great Kiskadee, Harlingen's official bird.

And when all that hunting tires you out, you can retreat to the beaches of South Padre Island or make a quick escape to Mexico via the Free Trade Bridge at Los Indios.
