Hendersonville, North Carolina

Hendersonville lies on a plateau at the southern edge of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in southwestern North Carolina. This city of 10,420 is the county seat of Henderson County, and is located 22 miles (35 kilometers) south of Asheville and 117 miles (188 kilometers) west of Charlotte.

For a view of the area, head a few miles from town to Jump Off Rock, a scenic overlook providing a panoramic view of rolling pastures, and the Blue Ridge and Pisgah mountain ranges. For another way to enjoy the view, take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is at Hendersonville's doorstep.

There are plenty of parks and forests available nearby for residents to get active, including: Pisgah National Forest, which encompasses 501,691 acres (203,027 hectares); Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee; DuPont State Forest, encompassing encompasses 10,268 acres (4,155 hectares) in Henderson and Transylvania counties; Gorges State Park, a relatively new park, featuring plunging waterfalls and rugged river gorges; and Crowders Mountain State Park, whose namesake mountain is the highest point in Gaston County, allowing for great views. And those whose idea of enjoying the outdoors includes a round of golf won't feel left out in Hendersonville, since there are several nine- and 18-hole courses in and around town.

In town, Historic Downtown Hendersonville is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is the site of numerous community events, such as music festivals, arts and craft shows, holiday displays, and the popular North Carolina Apple Festival.
