Hobbs, New Mexico

Hobbs is located in Lea County in southeastern New Mexico's desert plains, five miles (eight kilometers) west of the state's border with Texas. The county's economy chiefly involves agriculture and oil and gas, and Hobbs is considered the Oil Capital of New Mexico.

Hobbs, which as a population of 28,657, is located 69 miles (111 kilometers) northeast of Carlsbad, about 100 miles (161 kilometers) northwest of Odessa and Midland, and 110 miles (177 kilometers) southwest of Lubbock.

Hobbs is home to pursuits as diverse as soaring, casino gambling, and thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. And it's home to the excellent, 18-hole Ocotillo Park Golf Course ! And if you have kids, a great place to take them during hot New Mexico summer days (when highs average 93-94F, or 34C) is to the Parks & Recreation Department's Del Norte Park, complete with a waterpark.
