Hopkinsville, Kentucky

The city of Hopkinsville is located in southwestern Kentucky, 26 miles (42 kilometers) northwest of Clarksville, 64 miles (103 kilometers) southwest of Bowling Green, and 70 miles (113 kilometers) northwest of Nashville. It is near the Fort Campbell Military Reservation. Hopkinsville is the seat of Christian County and has a population of 30,089.

Jefferson Davis was one of the area's most famous residents, and served as the president of the Confederacy. The Jefferson Davis Monument State Historic Site in nearby Fairview features a 351-foot (107-meter) monument to Davis, along with Civil War exhibits and a gift store. The Trail of Tears Commemorative Park was used as a campsite during the forced relocation of the Cherokee people, and contains the burial sites of two chiefs. Today visitors can learn about the seven Cherokee clans, and participate in the annual Pow Wow held each September. Want to combine history with a dose of fun? Copper Canyon Ranch is a replica of a 1600s mining town, with old-fashioned buildings like the Red Dog Saloon and Marshall's Office and Jail.
