Hudson, Wisconsin

Hudson is located in western Wisconsin, just 18 miles (29 kilometers) east of St. Paul, Minnesota. It is the seat of Saint Croix County, and is home to 8,775 people.

Hudson is situated on a scenic spot between the bluffs of western Wisconsin and the St. Croix River. This river has long been recognized as one of the most beautiful in the country, and was designated a national scenic waterway in 1974. Lakefront Park is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and family recreation. Kinnickinnic State Park is also located along the St. Croix River, and offers a trout stream, forested trails, and great swimming and boating. Willow River State Park attracts more than 300,000 visitors a year, and features 3,155 acres (1,277 hectares) of wilderness, a 400-foot (122-meter) beach, two lakes, and lovely waterfalls. The lakes are excellent for fishing, sailing, and canoeing, while the forest contains great hiking trails and campsites. The Hudson area also offers six great golf courses, snow-tubing, and cross-country skiing trails.

Back in the city, pay a visit to the c. 1855 Octagon House. This eight-sided building was once the home of Judge John Moffat, and is now a museum that displays artifacts and antiques from the St. Croix Valley. The Phipps Center for the Arts is another cultural gem, and offers theatrical productions, concerts, visual arts exhibits, and classes for all ages. Shopaholics will find eclectic shops in Hudson's historic downtown, and a wide range of stores On the Hill just outside of the city.
