Jackson, Wyoming

Ever wondered what it would be like to live in a National Park Reserve? Well, Jackson (also known as Jackson Hole for the 50-mile/80-kilometer-long valley area in which it is found) places you less than an hour's drive from not just one but two natural treasures: Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. Together, these parks provide more than 2.5 million acres (one million hectares) of heart-stopping, mind-blowing, soul-lifting natural beauty, where anyone with a sense of adventure can partake in such activities as hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, bird watching, and snowmobiling. And don't forget to visit Old Faithful in Yellowstone. And we probably don't even have to mention all the skiing!

Jackson, a town of 8,647, also has a lot to offer. Art is especially highly valued, and, of Jackson's more than 40 different galleries, few display it better than the National Museum of Wild Life Art, with its 2,000-piece collection.

Sorry, what was that? You do want some more wild life? Well, in that case, make sure to be around when the annual Elk Festival kicks off in late May. One weekend dedicated to everything elk and everything festive: games, activities, education, and awareness. Everything culminates with a big auction of dropped elk antlers (which happens naturally) collected by the local Boy Scouts. The antlers are sold all over the world and are used for furniture and as decorations.

For those who might have had their appetite for wild life sated, there is always the Off Square Theatre Company, which has a diverse repertoire including Shakespeare, professional clowns, and musicals.

Of course all this is no good if there's no nourishment for the body. Luckily, with its abundance of good restaurants, Jackson can satisfy even the most picky gourmet: How about Bar-T-5 for some authentic Wild West fare, or Nani's Genuine Pasta House with its homemade pasta? Whatever way you want it, you can have your steak/pasta/fajita/trout and eat it, too!

Jackson has everything to satisfy almost everybody, especially those who love (you guessed it) wild life, so make sure you take the time to take it all in.
